Meet Our Coaches
Varsity Girls Head Coach
Rochelle Vaughn was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas before moving to Plano, Texas. She graduated high school from Plano West Senior High, where she was a three year letter winner and team captain. Vaughn went on to letter all four years in college, serving as team captain in her last three years, at the University of Arkansas. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Communication and a minor in Spanish.
Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, Vaughn continued her education at Arkansas and received her Master’s in Education. After college, she played professionally in Germany for Herner TC before returning to her roots as a player and beginning her coaching career at Plano West. She coached at Plano West for four years before moving to McKinney Boyd as the Girls Head Coach for another four years. Over the last two years, Vaughn helped lead Frisco Liberty to Regional Final and Regional Semi-final appearances as the Associate Head Coach.
She is a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Plano, Texas where her father is an associate minister, and her mom is an usher
Varsity Girls Assistant
Aaron Vernon was born in Abilene, Texas and grew up in a military family. He moved around every few years and ended up graduating from Vilseck American High School in Germany. While in high school, he competed and was the captain in multiple sports which included; football, basketball, and soccer. Coach Vernon started college at State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego and then transferred to Kansas State University to finish as a Wildcat.
After graduating from KSU, Coach Vernon moved to Frisco and started his career at Maus Middle School. He coached track in addition to the sports he played in high school. After 5 years at the middle school level, he moved up to Heritage High School where he taught Biology and coached soccer. During his time at Heritage, he coached boys JV2 soccer and then became the Varsity Assistant to the Girls Soccer team. After serving in that role for a few years, he could not pass up the opportunity to get back into the gym and coach with Coach Vaughn at Memorial.
JV Girls Coach
Devri Owens is ecstatic to have an opportunity to contribute to the opening of MHS. She will be working in the English department as well as coaching for the women’s basketball team. She is looking forward to building a relationship with all of the students and staff.
Born and raised in Plano, Texas, Ms. Owens graduated from Plano West High School where she was a two-time district MVP, and team captain. She went on to play division one basketball at the University of Utah for three years, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English. At one point Ms. Owens even had the best 3-point percentage as a freshman. She then transferred back home and played one last year of basketball at Southern Methodist University while pursuing her Master’s Degree in Education.
Ms. Owens has two younger sisters, which she adores. However, her two favorite people ever, are her mom and dad. When she is not at school she likes to hangout with her family and friends, watch sports, or do something creative. She is eager to start implementing a fun, enjoyable, and productive atmosphere here at MHS. Even though MHS has not yet opened, Ms. Owens just knows it’s going to be the greatest school ever!
Freshman Girls Coach
Mrs. Benson is excited to be a Memorial Warrior, and she cannot wait to support my students so they leave high school feeling confident in their math abilities and passionate about their life goals!
Traci Benson is entering her 16th year in education and her 8th in Frisco ISD. She has taught high school Algebra and Geometry as well as 4th, 5th and 8th grades. She coached in both middle and high school as well.
Mrs. Benson graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos (now Texas State University) in 2002 with a BS in Elementary Education, specializing in mathematics. She married her college sweetheart, Justin Benson, in 2004 and they have lived in Frisco the past 14 years. They moved here to raise our children in a great community and have not been disappointed. Mrs. Benson and her husband have two daughters, Peyton, 12 (who will be a 7th grader), and Camryn, 10 (who will be a 5th grader).
Mrs. Benson loves reading, crafting, running, biking and swimming. She is also passionate about Texas sports, especially the Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks.
Head Boys’ Basketball Coach
Coach Quinton Gibson enters his first season as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Memorial High School. A native of Temple, Texas, Coach Gibson attended Temple High School where he was a two-year basketball letterman. After graduating from Temple High School Coach Gibson went to further his education and playing career first at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas and then transferring to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. After playing basketball and graduating from Hill College and UMHB with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Coach Gibson moved to Dallas to pursue a career in outside sales. After a successful stint in outside sales Coach Gibson decided to follow his calling and became an educator/coach.
Coach Gibson has taught and coached at TEC Aubrey (2009), TEC Temple (2010), Bonham Middle School (Temple ISD) (2010-2012), and then was promoted to Head Freshman Football and Basketball Coach at Temple High School in 2013 were he stayed for one year before being promoted to Head Boys Basketball Coach at his high school alma mater in 2014.
As Head Boys Basketball Coach at Temple High School Coach Gibson has graduated 100% of his players, signed seven players to play college basketball, made appearances in the state playoff, was named Coach of the Year and won a district title in 2015-2016.
Coach Gibson is married to Cieandres and they have two children: Quinton (Trey)(8) and Makyncie (2).
